Makeup tools mistakes and how to fix them
“I could stop buying makeup but I’m not a quitter.”
The beauty industry in this country currently runs into billions of dollars. A good part of that figure comes from cosmetics. So even when we are currently not spending as much due to the stay-at-home order, we have clearly made quite an investment in makeup and makeup tools to put our best face forward (perhaps virtually for the time being).
However, let’s talk about makeup tools mistakes you may be making every day and not even realize it. Here’s a list of the common ones… and how to fix them.
1. Not cleaning your brushes — sterilize make-up tools and brushes every week with a gentle liquid soap (baby shampoo, for example). Use a tall glass for brushes, dilute with warm water and a touch of rubbing alcohol. Let brushes soak for one hour, rinse them thoroughly with cold water and then stand them, end up, in the empty glass to air dry. Powders (mineral or otherwise) tend to be safer especially if you are keeping your brushes clean.
2. Not replacing your make-up sponges — rotate, wash and change sponges regularly. If you use your hands to apply make-up, make sure they are clean. Be close to the sink, not in your car when putting on your daily face. It is safer in every way.
